Fashion Bras, or Why We Can’t Re-order That
Has this happened to you? You come across a beautiful bra, only to be told that it’s out of stock in your size and can’t be re-ordered. “Whyyyyyy?” you cry, as you drop to your knees, shaking your fists at the sky. “Why would you keep me from the bra I love??” Believe me, nothing would make us happier than getting you two together! But it’s not always up to us. What stands between you and your love? Two words: fashion bras.
Basic and fashion are lingerie industry terms. Bra brands use these categories to divide bras that are available year-round from those that are available for a limited time only.
Basic Bras
Basic, in this context, doesn’t mean boring or plain. (Sometimes basic bras are really lacy and intricate!) These are bras that the company manufactures and sells consistently throughout the year. They’re often black and/or beige, and sometimes white. These are the bras that we’ll regularly carry, and we can re-order them pretty much any time. For example, Fantasie’s Rebecca t-shirt bra is a basic in black and beige.
Fashion Bras
These are the bras at the centre of the drama described above. You can think of fashion bras as limited edition bras. They can be a totally new design, but often they’re a basic bra in a new colour or print. The fashion colour or print is made in a limited quantity, and stores (like Broad!) have to order these way in advance. Fashion bras are typically ordered just once, months before they’re available or even made. Occasionally, if a supplier has some left over, we’re able to re-order a small amount later, but for the most part that first early order is it. So while we can order Rebecca in black or beige any time, we ordered a gorgeous cherry lace version several months ago to receive it early next month. And when it’s gone? It’s gone!
How can you make sure you catch a fashion bra while it’s still available? Talk to us! Let us know what you’re interested in. Do you have a favourite basic bra that you’d love to own in a fun colour? We keep track of who’s interested in a new fashion style as well as the size they’d need, and we let them know when the order arrives. This requires patience, but it’s well worth it to get the bra you want before it’s gone for good! And if you don’t receive our email newsletters, you might want to get on the list – subscribers get all the good news first.
