The Bra Fitter Diaries: Buying a Swimsuit in Your Bra Size

I have never known anyone to get excited about swimsuit shopping. It’s universally acknowledged to be challenging, if not downright scary. So many different cuts and styles to choose from, and that’s before we even get into sizing. Small, medium, large…that’s not the most helpful size chart for a lot of us. Forget about finding something cute – finding a swimsuit that just FITS is enough of a task!

There’s a light at the end of this tunnel though, and it’s shining on bra-sized swimsuits. It makes sense when you think about it, right? Boobs come in so many shapes and sizes that traditional t-shirt sizing isn’t of much use. Would you rather have 4 sizes available to you, or a hundred?

A swimsuit in your bra size doesn’t have to look like a bra, either – even if it has underwire. Look for details like ruching or a twist like the one on Fantasie’s Los Cabos bikini.

A bra-sized swimsuit brings added security, too. For fuller-busted folks, a well-fitted swim top with underwire means no teen movie style exposure when you surface from a dive. It’s nice to know that you can relax, have fun, and actually swim because your suit’s staying put.

One more secret to getting your perfect fit is to opt for separates rather than a one piece. This doesn’t have to be a teeny bikini – if you want a customized fit with the coverage of a one-piece, try a tankini. There are some beautiful full swimsuits out there (our current fave is the Freya Remix!) but they can be harder to fit if, for example, you’re petite and have a shorter torso.

And as an added bonus? When you swimsuit shop with a bra fitter, you get extra support.

(I promise not to pun in the fitting room.)
