I\u2019m Shavaun, and as the store receptionist I\u2019m often the first face you\u2019ll see when you visit us. But that\u2019s not all &#8211; I\u2019m also training as a bra fitter under Sam, Broad\u2019s owner and fit expert. Over the coming weeks, we\u2019ll be giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into fit training. I know I\u2019m not the only one out there who\u2019s spent years confused about her bra size, so I hope that by sharing what I learn I can clear things up for you, too!<\/p>\n<p>On my first day at Broad I mentioned that as a 34D, I wouldn\u2019t fit into our size range of DD to JJ. Sam glanced at me and said she thought I was more like a 32E. Lo and behold, when I had a fitting a few days later, she was right. This superpower is one that fitters develop over time&#8230;must be fun at parties! Until then, I\u2019ll be measuring bra size.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-155\" src=\"http:\/\/broadlingerie.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_6455-e1460063306568-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Under-bust measurement\" width=\"246\" height=\"328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/broadlingerie.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_6455-e1460063306568-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/broadlingerie.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_6455-e1460063306568.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\" \/>First, I\u2019ll measure for the band size &#8211; I\u2019m working with a volunteer model here. I wrap the measuring tape around her body, just under her bust. I&#8217;ll make sure that the tape is level all the way around, not dipping or riding up at the back. Then I pull the tape til it\u2019s snug against her body and note the measurement. In this case, it\u2019s 30\u201d. Because our model is pretty slender, there\u2019s not a lot of cushioning around her ribcage. This could make a very snug band uncomfortable. She\u2019s also not especially full-busted, so she doesn\u2019t need the extra support a very snug band would offer a fuller-busted person. For those reasons, I\u2019m going to add 2\u201d to that measurement, bringing us to 32\u201d. (For a person with more padding around the ribs, or for a fuller-busted person, I would stick with the original measurement of 30\u201d.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-156 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/broadlingerie.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_6460-e1460063321872-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Bust measurement\" width=\"246\" height=\"328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/broadlingerie.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_6460-e1460063321872-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/broadlingerie.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_6460-e1460063321872.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\" \/>Next, I\u2019ll measure her bust. Again making sure that the tape is level at the back, I wrap it around the fullest part of the bust. I\u2019m not pulling it tight this time; instead I\u2019ll leave it a little loose because pulling it snug would only compress breast tissue and result in a too-small cup size. Our model\u2019s bust measures 37\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, how do we get from these measurements to a cup size? I count the inches between the two measurements. If there is no difference between the two (i.e. underbust is 30\u201d and bust is 30\u201d) then the cup size is A. If there\u2019s an inch difference, it\u2019s a B cup, and so on. But what does that really mean? And what happens next?
