The Bra Fitter Diaries: Test Your Bra – Bust A Move!

So you’ve tried on a bunch of bras, and you’ve found a couple that you really like. Grab ‘em and go, right? Before you buy those beauties, it’s a good idea to run a few tests on them. It’s one thing for a bra to look and feel great while you’re standing still, but your bra needs to get you through all the activities of your day. Here’s how to test your bra:

Swing

Move your arms back and forth. Do a little dance! Do you experience any discomfort, digging, or rubbing under your arms? How do the side wires feel?

Bend

bend and snapMake like Elle Woods and try the Bend & Snap! Lean over and come back up. Did your boobs stay securely in the bra, or did it feel like you might fall out?

Sit

Sit down. Like, really sit down. Pretend you’ve just marathoned season 2 of Grace & Frankie on Netflix and good posture is a faint memory. Do the underwires dig?

Stretch

Reach up, up, up! Do the cups stay put, or do the underwires move up onto your boobs? Are you falling out the bottom of the bra?

Jump

If you’re shopping for a sports bra, it’s smart to do a jump test too. Do you still feel supported, or is there a lot of bounce?

Wild Card!

Do you work at a computer all day? Do you teach kindergarten and spend a lot of the workday sitting on the floor or chasing little ones? If there’s any kind of repetitive motion in your day, or a position you spend a lot of time in, make sure your new bra will work for that, too.

Movement tests like these are the best way to get a feel for how your new bra will perform in the day-to-day. It’s worth trying them out on your current bra, too – a bra check-up of sorts. A good, properly fitted bra will keep you comfortable and secure throughout all of them. You’ve got things to do and places to go! The last thing you want to worry about is your bra, so make sure it fits your bod and your lifestyle.
